Cwmtawe Sevens - Saturday 14th August
1999
The All Blacks selected a young and fast squad
for Wales's most prestigious Sevens Tournament. The Young players acquitted
themselves very well, in the Group stages Neath scored 168 points in their
three matches. The quarter finals saw the young All Blacks drawn
against old rivals Swansea who included Paul Moriarty and Robert Jones in their
squad. The All Blacks ran out comfortable winners 26 - 7 with Luke Richards and
Richard Johnson the key players. In the Semi finals Sevens specialists Samurai
were beaten 36 -7 with Mark Davies to the fore along with Kevin James and
Richard Francis and Steve Tandy. A very experienced Bridgend side ran out
comfortable winners against a very tired Neath unit in the final 45 - 12, the
All Black scorers were Richard Johnson and Kevin James. Congratulations to the
squad for becoming the first Neath squad to reach the final of the Event.
