The first half was a hard
fought affair, with no quarter asked or given. The French side lacked
discipline, which allowed outside half Lee Jarvis to stack up three penalties
before the break, whilst the visitors managed a penalty by outside half
Benjamin Boyet.
The second half started
with another Penalty by Boyet to reduce the arrears, centre Allan Bateman set
wing Kevin James free for the games first try. If discipline was a problem for
the French in the first half, it became a major headache in the second half
with four players receiving yellow cards for various offences.
Jarvis was on target with
two penalty attempts before recalled Wales flanker Brett Sinkinson scored his
first try of the season, which was converted by Lee Jarvis. Jarvis passed the
150 points for the season landmark with this kick.
In the last five minutes
the Frenchmen scored twice, the first try came from a lineout and rolling maul
and was scored by number eight Laurent. Mr Ramage awarded the second despite a
huge knock on by Russian centre Chaliouta, Benjamin Boyet converted both
tries.
