Bonymaen V Neath 2nd March 2004
MATCH REPORT
BONYMAEN nil NEATH 33 (by Phil
Space) An entertaining affair with plenty of positive attacking running
saw Neath stage their 27th win of the season in cold but dry conditions at
Division One Bonymaen on Tuesday evening.
Respective coaches Rowland Phillips and
Matthew McCarthy took the opportunity to run the eye over some promising
newcomers and will have derived a great deal of benefit from the game.
With back rowers Jason Massey and Dai
Hills getting through a lot of work, Bonymaen fought hard throughout and in the
first half limited Neath to just one try by centre Aled Bevan.
But In the second-half Neath's extra pace
behind the scrum began to count and the Blacks ran in four further scores
without reply. Flanker Simon Peters was up in support for one and Richard
Carter flew in for two but the try of the night was scored by young replacement
full back Peter Burrows on debut. The trusty boot of Chris Anderson saw him add
four conversions.
Bonymaen probably deserved a score but
Neath's commitment to the tackle was good and they managed to keep a blank
scoresheet.
